WHAT MONSTROUS GODS Preorder Campaign!

It’s pretty simple:

  • You preorder WHAT MONSTROUS GODS from your bookstore of choice, or request it through your local library.
  • You fill out this form and upload a picture of the receipt/library request.
  • I mail you a signed bookplate and a print of this character art by Nicole Deal:

I should add that you can also purchase a hand-signed copy of WHAT MONSTROUS GODS from Third Place Books, and then I guess stick the bookplate in your old paperback of CRUEL BEAUTY, or use it to decorate your water bottle, or something. But you will ONLY get the character art print from the preorder campaign!

What Monstrous Gods Cover Reveal!

I’m so very thrilled that I can finally share the cover for What Monstrous Gods. The beautiful artwork is by Lorena Lammer.

Coming March 5, 2024.

Centuries ago, the heretic sorcerer Ruven raised a deadly briar around Runakhia’s palace, casting the royal family into an enchanted sleep—and silencing the kingdom’s gods.

Born with a miraculous gift, Lia’s destiny is to kill Ruven and wake the royals. But when she succeeds, she finds her duty is not yet complete, for now she must marry into the royal family and forge a pact with a god—or die.

To make matters even worse, Ruven’s spirit is haunting her.

As discord grows between the old and new guards, the queen sends Lia and Prince Araunn, her betrothed, on a pilgrimage to awaken the gods. But the old gods are more dangerous than Lia ever knew—and Ruven may offer her only hope of survival.

As the two work together, Lia learns that they’re more alike than she expected. And with tensions rising, Lia must choose between what she was raised to believe and what she knows is right—and between the prince she is bound to by duty…and the boy she killed.

Crimson Bound: a different ending

In January 2020, I took part in an auction to benefit relief efforts for the Australian wildfires. The prize I offered was to write some kind of epilogue or missing scene for one of my novels, and the prompt I got was to write about the alternate universe where Erec survived the end of Crimson Bound. You can read it here.

Three Announcements

1. The paperback edition of Endless Water, Starless Sky will come out this December. Please mark your calendars and remember that books about death and zombies are always excellent Christmas presents, especially when they’re paperbacks that are light enough to hold onto as you sprint away from the undead horde.

2. I’m continuing to work on my next novel, What Monstrous Gods, and I am very excited to share it with all of you! Unfortunately, that won’t be happening as soon as I had hoped: it’s now going to be published in early 2021.

3. But I do have something coming out in this year, because I’m self-publishing an anthology of my short stories. It’s going to be available as both a paperback and an ebook. The title will be Desires and Dreams and Powers, and it will feature all of my professionally published stories, plus my favorite pieces that I posted on the Hanging Garden Stories blog, and the three flash fictions that I wrote for the Crimson Bound blog tour. Unfortunately, I can’t give you an exact date when it will be available (I’m still figuring out this process), but I can tell you that it will be sometime in the next two months, and that I will of course let you all know when it’s ready.

New Book!

I am THRILLED to be able to tell you that I have sold another novel! Here’s the official announcement from Publisher’s Weekly:

“Kristin Rens at Balzer + Bray has acquired a YA fantasy novel by Cruel Beauty author Rosamund Hodge. The book, What Monstrous Gods, starts where “Sleeping Beauty” leaves off, as Lia, a girl chosen by the gods of Runakhia, releases the royal family from 500 years of enchanted sleep and kills the heretic sorcerer who trapped them—only to find that the gods are not as benevolent as they appear, and the ghost of the sorcerer she killed may be her only help to protect her life and country. Publication is planned for winter 2020; Hannah Bowman at Liza Dawson Associates did the deal for world rights.”
